Reminding designers of their ethical responsibility

What better way than to have a poster highlighting a designer’s responsibilities?

Mike Monteiro, the founder and design director of San Francisco based interaction studio Mule Design invited his designer and illustrator friends to contribute to a poster project. The aim: remind designers of their ethical responsibilities.

The result was striking. Posters ranged from a simple black, white and red list to Monteiro’s own collection of cuts of meat matching ethical guidelines. Along with the messages are rules framed by group of designers that Monteiro talks to about these ideas.

Monteiro, who believes that design decisions today are being made by people who have no clue what the repercussions are, speaks on the topic at conferences and is hoping that the posters will push the conversation forward and remind designers of their ethical responsibilities. Will the posters win his fight for ethical design?
