This billboard knows how you’re feeling

A giant new billboard in London knows what car you drive, and even how you’re feeling.

Talk about data and insights. There is a new flashy billboard in London’s Piccadilly Circus that targets passerbys (pedestrians and drivers) before serving ads to them.

According to Wired UK, it is the largest of its kind in Europe. How can a billboard analyse someone passing by? And how exactly does it work? Built-in cameras analyse approaching vehicles - make, model and colour - and serve pre-programmed ads aimed at the person it presumes is behind a particular kind of wheel.

It can even gauge the emotions, gender and age group of pedestrians passing by. Coca-Cola, Hyundai, Samsung and L’Oreal will be among the early advertisers to the new screen in Piccadilly, though it’s not clear yet whether and how they’ll use the recognition technology.
