Breakfast brand Eggo squanders the opportunities

The popularity of Stranger Things' Season 1 gave Eggo a massive boost. But has Eggo been able to capitalise on the popularity?

Eleven, the character that Millie Bobby Brown plays in Stranger Things, just loves Eggo. While the brand has been trying to milk this tie-in, it does not seem to have fared as well as it might have.

There are Stranger Things-themed recipes, DIY projects you can make from Eggo boxes and, now, a Google Chrome extension that purports to block any season two spoilers coming from Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, or Google News. However, all these are mostly yawn-worthy ideas.

Eggo is a brand of frozen waffles in the US, Canada and Mexico, owned by Kellogg. In just over a month after its release, Stranger Things became the third most-watched season of Netflix original content in the US. Eggo could have done better is what most analysts believe. Opportunities like these do not knock often.
