Snapchat’s redesign may not be enough to attract the over-34s

Founder Evan Spiegel’s admission that the app was confusing and needed redesigning to attract the non-millennials made everyone sit up. Can it actually attract the over 34-year-olds?

The new design for Snap (as it is called now) is out. However, it doesn’t seem to have excited too many people. More importantly, it is not clear why this new look would once again mesmerize millennials or demystify the service for non-millennials.

Quite similar to the app’s previous version’s paradigm, it has more consistency now: chats with friends, for example, are now listed in the same feed as shared stories. Previously, they were split up on separate pages. Likewise, content from community creators, such as celebrities, will be increasingly pushed into the Discover tab, as opposed to before when they were sprinkled among items shared with your friends.

The clamour to make Snapchat more traditional grew as its stock price plummeted 53 per cent from the high it achieved earlier this year.
