Mark Zuckerberg showcases his self-created digital assistant Jarvis

The Facebook CEO reveals that his home AI teaches his daughter Mandarin among other things

Facebook founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg in a blog and video posted on Facebook, has shared how an artificial intelligence system developed by him runs his home. He calls this system Jarvis – which is also the name of Marvel hero and Iron Man Tony Stark's digital home assistant.

Zuckerberg takes viewers through his journey with Jarvis, explaining that he began the project with an aim to understand artificial intelligence better.

“So far this year, I’ve built a simple AI that I can talk to on my phone and computer, that can control my home, including lights, temperature, appliances, music, and security, that learns my tastes and patterns, that can learn new words and concepts, and that can even entertain Max,” writes Zuckerberg, referring to his one-year old daughter

He adds, “For example, one thing I learned is it’s hard to find a toaster that will let you push the bread down while it’s powered off so you can automatically start toasting when the power goes on.

The video shows how Zuckerberg's tinkering gets him toast on time, and is also the tech behind a t-shirt ‘cannon’ installed in his closet. Amusingly, the canon shoots his now famous signature grey t-shirts at him at a 'fresh tshirt' command. Actor Morgan Freeman is revealed to be the voice of this digital assistant.
