The new Frito-Lays' Tostitos chips bag can detect alcohol

In this limited edition bag, 'drunk users' can also touch their phone to the bag to call an Uber.

In a partnership with Uber and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), Frito-Lay's Tostitos recently created a limited edition 'Party Safe' bag during the US Super Bowl football season. The bags were equipped with sensors that could detect any trace of alcohol on a person's breath. If a bag detected alcohol, a red light would flash below the Tostitos logo on the bag, and the message 'don't drink and drive' appeared, while the light would flash green, if the user was good to go.

On flashing red, the bag also displayed a $10 Uber discount code to help get that person home, according to various reports. Also, they were fitted with near-field communications (NFC) technology, enabling users to call an Uber car by touching their phone to the bag.

Tostitos has said that the bag is not an actual breathalyzer that can provide numeric value or particular accuracy, but did not reveal how much 'alcohol-breath' is required to activate the 'red warning'.
