Thomas Cook India, an integrated travel and travel-related financial services company, has announced the appointment of Abraham Alapatt as head, marketing. Alapatt joined the company last week. His mandate is to lead the group's brand building efforts and support and grow individual lines of business in line with existing and emerging opportunities.

Earlier, Alapatt was at Future Generali India (which has both life and general insurance businesses) as part of its original start up team.

Alapatt has a post graduation qualification in business administration (PGDBA) from the School of Communication and Management Studies. He joined Goldwire Communications as client services manager in 1995. There, he worked for clients such as MRF Tyres, Konica and TTK Pharma, among others. After three years, he was promoted as chief executive officer of the company.

Two years later, in 2000, he shifted to Ogilvy & Mather Advertising as client services director and practice group partner, Ogilvy Business Network. He worked for brands such as Hutch (now Vodafone) Sify, Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation, ITC, Nippo Batteries, Florsheim shoes, FFE Minerals, Viveks and Naidu Hall.

Later, he joined Reliance Capital as head, marketing communication, Reliance Mutual Fund in 2005. At Reliance, his responsibilities included looking after advertising, public relations, sales support, marketing support, market research and media relations.

In 2008, Alapatt joined Development Credit Bank as vice-president, marketing and communication with similar responsibilities. However, after a short stint of eight months, he moved on to join Future Generali India as senior vice-president and head, brand and corporate communication, customer service, rewards and recognition.
