Kamal Oberoi resigns as CMD, M&C Saatchi India

He has stepped down to pursue other professional and academic interests.

Kamal Oberoi, chairperson and managing director, M&C Saatchi India had resigned from the agency to pursue other professional and academic interests. Presently, he is on a sabbatical and shall decide his next plan of action in due course. Oberoi founded M&C Saatchi India in October 2005.

On his decision to move out, Oberoi tells afaqs!, "I have spent close to 28 years - practically my whole working life so far - in agencies. It was a thrill to start an agency from scratch when I founded M&C Saatchi six years ago. It was a great experience, and now we have a solid team in place, a good set of clients to work with and the agency is poised for its next stage of growth. Hence, it is an opportune time for me to take a step back."

Further, in a press statement, he adds that it has been a great challenging and rewarding experience, thanks to support from all his colleagues and for clients for reposing their faith in the agency.

Chris Jaques, chief executive officer, M&C Saatchi Asia, says in an official communiqué, "Kamal Oberoi is a legend in the industry and has been an amazing leader of M&C Saatchi since the day he launched our company in India in 2005. Thanks to him, M&C Saatchi is privileged to have a blue-chip client list and a first-class management team - one that is ready to take the company into the next phase of its exciting development."

Among his qualities, Jaques lists Oberoi's determination and professionalism as the two strongest ones.

Prior to setting up M&C Saatchi India in 2005, Oberoi was with JWT for more than two decades. His last stint there was as president.
