The IIM Ahmedabad alumnus, and Ogilvy veteran who has been with the agency for 25 years, will be given his exact mandate in May this year.

An apex body of the agency, the worldwide board is a global management team that has representatives across major markets and major disciplines on it. For Madhukar, it's not really about new job responsibilities or a new geographical mandate.

"This is more of a recognition for India as a big market, and a recognition of Ogilvy India and the good work it has been producing," he tells afaqs!, explaining that his role is to represent both "India's point of view" as well as "the point of view of planning as a discipline" on this board.

Ranjan Kapur, country head of WPP India, has been on Ogilvy's worldwide board in the past; he was inducted back in 1998 when he was with Ogilvy. Presently, Piyush Pandey, executive chairperson and creative director, Ogilvy South Asia, is on the board; he was inducted in 2006.

Commenting on the12 new members, including Sabnavis, who were elected to the board, Miles Young, worldwide chairman and chief executive officer, O&M, says in an official communiqué, that these additions represent a range of the agency's key talent and with this current expansion the board will now be significantly more diverse.

New York-based Carla Hendra, chairman of OgilvyRED, the agency's global strategy and innovation practice, has been appointed as the new vice chairman of the board, a newly created position.
