Ambush gone sour: Court asks Zee to remove ads alluding to IndiaTV's Rajat Sharma

The Delhi High Court in an order inhibited Zee Media Corporation from using the name of Rajat Sharma, chairman and editor-in-chief of India TV in its advertisements. The court also directed Zee to remove all hoardings across the country which mention the name of Sharma. Rajat Sharma has been the host India TV's show 'Aap Ki Adalat' for the last 25 years.

In December last year, Zee re-launched Zee Hindustan, an 'anchor-less' channel. The ads for the new channel which were published on various mediums took digs at rivals like India TV, Aaj Tak and Republic TV while also taking a jab at their star anchors and prime shows.

"Rajat Sharma and his channel India TV filed a suit for injunction against Zee, which was listed on 11.01.2019 before Hon’ble Mr. Justice Jayant Nath of the Hon’ble Delhi High Court. The Hon’ble High Court while granting the injunction in favour of Rajat Sharma and India TV refrained Zee from using Rajat Sharma’s name in their advertisements in the electronic and print media or in any other form. The Hon’ble High Court has further directed Zee to take down all hoardings containing the impugned advertisements," said an official statement from the IndiaTV team.
