Tyroo Media to help SlideShare earn advertising revenue

Slideshare.net is a US-based presentation-sharing site, which has more than 50 million users worldwide.

The US-based social media site Slideshare.net, which enables its users to share presentations and videos, has tied up with Tyroo Media to monetise its Indian traffic via advertising. Tyroo Media is the digital ad network of Yahoo! and Smile Interactive Technologies.

As per the deal, Tyroo Media will represent SlideShare and will be the sole marketing and sales partner for SlideShare's advertising solutions in the country. The revenue earned through advertising will be shared with Tyroo Media. In the US, the site has its own ad sales team.

"We have no plans to hire our ad sales team in India," says Amit Ranjan, chief operating officer and co-founder, Slideshare.net, in conversation with afaqs!.

To begin with, the social media site will offer banner ads and branded channels as part of advertising solutions to marketers. Later, more ad options may be added. Earlier, paid members of the site were allowed to create their own content channels on Slideshare.net. Now, even advertisers will be offered to set up their own branded channels/destinations, where they can upload presentations and videos, and customise these as well.

For instance, advertisers can use branded skin and place their own banner ads in their own channel.

Ranjan says, "This is the first time Slideshare.net will try to monetise its Indian traffic - about two million page views per month. Earlier, we were monetising it through Google AdSense-based ads and paid accounts."

The site will discontinue display ads served by Google AdSense, but keep serving text-based Google AdSense ads.
