Vaasu Gavarasana joins Yahoo! Asia-Pacific

Gavarasana, whose exact designation is yet to be decided, will be responsible for managing the global clients of yahoo!.

Vaasu Gavarasana, who was executive vice-president and branch head (Delhi) of Bates 141, and who recently put in his papers, has joined Yahoo! Asia-Pacific. Gavarasana, whose exact designation is yet to be decided, will be based in Singapore.

Confirming the news to afaqs!,Gavarasana says, "It is a new role for me, and I would be responsible for managing yahoo!'s relations with global clients."

Gavarasana further adds, "My creative and digital experience in agencies, will help me leverage my strength in Yahoo! Moreover, I feel yahoo!has the right synergy between the content and digital -- this will help."

Gavarasana has been in the advertising industry for 21 years and has core expertise in marketing communications. He started his career in 1991 and has worked with various agencies, both in India and the Asia-Pacific regions.

Gavarasana has spent 12 years with Interpublic Group (IPG) agencies such as McCann and Lintas, both in India and in Singapore. He may be called a Singaporean expat, having spent over 10 years there.

"I was being offered a transfer to McCann, New York, in 2007, but I turned down the offer in order to fulfil my entrepreneurial aspirations." He has been a dotcom entrepreneur, and has been running a website named Udrool.com for the last two years. However, as the venture was struck by the recession, he shifted his focus to India and joined Bates 141. Other than these, he has worked with agencies like TBWA and Dentsu Communications.

Gavarasana has also worked with DY&R 2.1 as a navigator and helped them set up the 2.1 division with Y&R Singapore.

Over the years, he has worked for global clients such as Unilever, Nestlé, MasterCard, Lufthansa, Boots Healthcare, and Johnson & Johnson.

Gavarasana has a passion for teaching and grooming young advertising professionals. He has been a visiting faculty in IMT Ghaziabad, and various other universities in Singapore like Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and Singapore Management University (SMU) to name a few.
