Alok Jain quits Zomato as CMO

Jain had joined Zomato in September 2013.

Alok Jain, chief marketing officer of restaurant listing website Zomato.com, has put in his papers. Jain had quit a month ago and is now working to launch his own venture called Yumist, which is a food-on-demand online platform.

Jain joined Zomato in September 2013 as CMO to look after all of Zomato's marketing efforts globally. Earlier, Jain was associated with Smile Group's daily deal website DealsAndYou.com as CMO. Jain's stint at Smile lasted for a short period of five months.

He also has entrepreneurial experience, having founded and led the mobile apps firm, Unyqe, in 2011; a Singapore-based digital marketing solutions firm, Think Net, in May 2010; an online digital photo printing service, PhotoMasti.com, in March 2006; and an online T-shirt portal, Teepsy.com, in March 2005.

Besides being an entrepreneur, Jain has also been an independent digital marketing consultant had worked as territory manager with GE Capital from 2001 to 2002.

The company has raised $53.5 million in funding to date, the most recent one being $37 million from Sequoia Capital and existing investor Info Edge, which runs a slew of consumer internet portals, including Naukri.com. Zomato had recently acquired New Zealand-based Menu Mania, the company behind the restaurant discovery and reviews site MenuMania.co.nz, for an undisclosed amount.
