The Indian box office collected Rs. 5,723 crore in the first half of 2025, marking a 14% increase over the same period in 2024. Seventeen films crossed the Rs. 100 crore mark between January and June.

Chhaava emerged as the year’s top grosser so far with Rs. 693 crore. Telugu film Sankranthiki Vasthunam followed, while Hindi hits Sitaare Zameen Par and Housefull 5 each touched Rs. 200 crore in June.

Hollywood films have regained a double-digit share of the Indian box office for the first time since 2022. Telugu and Tamil films maintained strong positions with 20% and 15% shares, while Hindi films continued to dominate at 40%.

If current trends hold, 2025 could close at Rs. 13,500 crore, potentially becoming the biggest year ever for the India box office. Upcoming releases like Kantara: Chapter 1, Avatar: Fire and Ash, War 2, and Coolie are expected to play a key role in pushing the numbers further.
