CNBC-TV18 and CNN-IBN launch Raghav Bahl's debut book

The book 'Superpower?: The Amazing Race between China's Hare and India's Tortoise' provides insights about the two evolving Asian economies

CNBC-TV18, in association with CNN-IBN, has launched media magnate Raghav Bahl's debut book, 'Superpower?: The Amazing Race between China's Hare and India's Tortoise'.

The non-fiction book provides insights about the two evolving economies, India and China, who are in the race to become the next global superpower. The book explores whether India is ready for superpower status; or whether it needs to catch up with China in the game.

The book was launched in New Delhi by Kamal Nath, Union Cabinet Minister of Road Transport and Highways.

The book stems from the questions that Bahl, founder and editor, Network18 often faced about India's regulations, foreign investment policy and the country's infrastructure, which invariably led to a comparison with China.

The book states that while both economies are eventually projected to dominate the global landscape, there are stark differences in the way China and India work.

It says that the eventual winner of the race might not be determined by who is investing more and growing faster; but by who has superior innovative skills and is more entrepreneurially savvy. The one deciding factor, according to the author, would be whether India can fix its governance before China repairs its politics.

In a press statement, Bahl says, "The moral, 'Slow and steady wins the race' of the famous story of the hare and the tortoise righteously has been interpreted in my book. It is a critical commentary on the political economy of India, challenged by China to race her. I would recommend this book to all aspiring citizens of our nation to gain a new perspective of the future global power."

Superpower?: The Amazing Race between China's Hare and India's Tortoise is published by Allen Lane, Penguin Books India and is available for Rs 699.

Bahl is the founder, controlling shareholder and editor of Network18. He has been instrumental in crafting successful joint ventures with media giants such as NBC Universal, Viacom, Time Warner and Forbes. In 2007, he was hailed as a Global Leader of Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum and selected by Ernst & Young as Entrepreneur of the Year for Business Transformation.
