Sahara India Pariwar has launched 'Alami Sahara' -- its national Urdu news channel. This is the first privately owned national Urdu news channel in India, claims the multi-media business company.

According to Sahara, more than 9 crore people speak and understand Urdu, of which 4 crore are television viewers. Alami Sahara aims to tap this audience by showcasing regional, national and international issues with fairness and precision.

The channel will be broadcast in 54 countries, including India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Kuwait, Brunei, Jordan, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, Cyprus, Turkey, Bhutan, Nepal, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Macau, Maldives, Fiji, Myanmar, Mongolia, North Korea, South Korea, Russia, Singapore and Australia.

It is pertinent to note here that Sahara News Network already publishes Roznama Rashtriya Sahara (an Urdu daily), Aalami Sahara (a weekly magazine) and Bazm-e-Sahara (a monthly tabloid). The Urdu daily, Roznama has 16 editions from 10 centres for its 31.5 lakh readers. There are 5.25 lakh readers of the Urdu weekly; while the Urdu monthly, Bazm-e-Sahara has 5 lakh readers.

For the record, Sahara News Network runs the national Hindi news channel, Samay, along with 36 city-specific regional news channels under the brand name, Sahara Samay.
