Sun TV Network launches four channels in the action genre

Sun TV Network, the largest television network in South India, has now forayed into the action genre with the launch of four action movie channels. These include Sun Action in Tamil, Gemini Action in Telugu, Suriyan TV in Kannada, and Surya Action in Malayalam.

In a communication to the stock exchanges, Sun TV Network says, "With this launch, we are entering into the ad free pay channel world, as well as the new genre of action movie added to the existing genres of general entertainment, movies, music, news, kids, and comedy."

While many note that the move means a value addition to the overall offerings in the Sun TV Network bouquet, the subscription revenue model is expected to fetch small earnings initially. However, with complete digitisation and with Sun Direct, the DTH platform from the Sun stable, in its kitty, the network is eventually expected to find takers for its latest offerings.

With this, the total number of channels in Sun's bouquet moves up to 29, of which there are 10 channels in Tamil, eight channels in Telugu, seven channels in Kannada, and four channels in Malayalam languages.

For the record, UTV currently operates two action channels -- UTV Action Hindi and UTV Action Telugu. Soon, STAR India too, is expected to launch an action channel under the Fox banner.
