Narendra Tripathi, COO, India News, quits

Tripathi has been associated with India News for about a year and he plans to turn to entrepreneurship.

Chief operating officer of India News, Narendra Tripathi has quit the channel recently. His last working day at the channel was June 30. Tripathi had joined India News in September, 2011.

Confirming the news to afaqs!, Tripathi says, "I am looking forward to start something of my own, but that should take some time. Meanwhile, I also have a couple of other offers but I am firm on working on my own start-up. In my career, I have been involved with many start-ups, and so I know it is a very demanding task."

At India News, Tripathi was looking after all the operations of the channels and also taking care of the expansions. His new initiative will be announced this month or by early next month.

Armed with a post graduate degree in economics, he started his career in 1989 as a management trainee with the TOI group and was with the group for seven years. He has also worked with the ABP Group and STAR India, where he handled Channel V as its regional head (Delhi and Kolkata), from 1998 to 2000. In 2000, he joined Indya.com. He was also head, marketing and sales at Red FM. During his stint with NDTV Media, from 2007 to 2009, he was part of the launch team of NDTV 24X7 and NDTV Good Times.

A part of the start-up team of Channel 7 (of the Jagran group), after its merger with Network18, Tripathi shifted to Radio Mantra (which was being launched then) as chief operating officer in 2009. He has also worked at Mid-Day as printer and publisher, handling print order, marketing and sales. He worked at Mid-Day for a couple of months. Later, he joined India News in September, 2011 as chief operating officer.
