Nonita Kalra quits Elle

After working with the magazine as an editor for more than 12 years, Kalra has decided to quit the publication. December 20 will be her last day.

Nonita Kalra, editor-in-chief, Elle has decided to quit the fashion magazine after a 12-year stint with the publication.

Speaking on the development to afaqs!, Kalra confirms that December 20 is her last day at Elle. She says, "I had a wonderful experience at Elle. One can only serve for 12 years if one is enjoying the work. It was one of the best learning experiences for me."

Kalra explains that she has seen the best of fashion industry and has seen it growing to what it is today.

A veteran journalist with more than two decades of experience in broadcast and print, she has steered the India operations of Elle since she became its editor in June, 2000.

Kalra says, "It's time to move on and I now leave the magazine in the hands of my incredibly talented team, so I expect that the magazine will only look much better."

She refrains from talking about her next move and says, "One needs a break after 12 years of service."

Industry sources say that she is headed for a position in a corporate house.

In a career spanning 22 years, Kalra has worked with several organisations such as India Today, Businessworld and Indian Express.

Elle is one of the biggest international fashion magazines and has its operations in more than 35 countries. The India edition of the magazine recently celebrated its 16th anniversary with a big fashion issue and Elle Style awards. The magazine, through its various editions, offers insights on the latest trends in fashion, lifestyle, beauty, horoscopes and relationships, among other things.
