GEC Watch: IPL effect continues on GEC ratings in Week 15

While Colors, Life Ok and SAB TV have remained stable on their GRPs of last week, all the other top players have experienced a further drop in numbers.

General entertainment channels continue to lose their viewership numbers in the light of the Indian Premier League's sixth edition on SET Max, as revealed by TAM figures (C&S, 4+, HSM) for Week 15 obtained from one of the subscribers. The Hindi GECs haven't seen any changes in the rankings in Week 15 (television viewership from April, 7 to April, 13).

Star Plus, despite losing 31 points, has maintained its top position by garnering 253 GRPs in the current week. The channel has featured seven of his shows in the top shows' list this week.

Zee TV, at No. 2, lost 22 GRPs to clock 163 points in Week 15. Two of its shows made it to the most watched shows' list.

Sony, which suffered a marginal loss, dropped from 164 GRPs in Week 14 to 160 GRPs in the current week, and continued at the No. 3 position. Interestingly, the crime fiction show of the channel, CID, has featured in the most watched list.

Colors, at No. 4, has remained stable with 156 GRPs. Also, three of the channel's shows were in the list of the top shows this week.

SAB TV, the sibling channel of Sony, was able maintain its foothold at the fifth spot with 137 GRPs, same as last week. Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltaah Chashmah, its flagship show, has maintained its claim among the most watched shows.

Life OK, the sibling GEC of Star Plus, has scored 110 GRPs, stable at last week's numbers, with no show featuring in the top shows' list.

STAR Utsav and Sahara One stand at seventh and eighth positions with 49 and 19 GRPs, respectively.

As a direct impact of the IPL, TVRs of several shows have also come down. Diya Aur Baati Hum stayed on top with 4.2 TVRs, followed by three STAR properties - Yeh Rishta Kya Khelata Hai and Pyar Ka Dard Hai at the second position with 3.4 TVRs; and Veera at No. 3 with 3.2 TVRs.

At No. 4, SAB TV's flagship property, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltaah Chashmah scored 3.1 TVRs. Colors' Madhubala stood next with 2.9 TVRs, followed by Star's Saathiya Saath Nibhana with 2.8 TVRs.

The seventh spot in the list is shared by Zee TV's Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke, Colors' Balika Vadhu and Star Plus' Nach Baliye Shriman Vs Shrimati with 2.7 TVRs each.

Qubool Hai (Zee TV) and Uttaran (Colors) occupy the eighth position, each clocking 2.5 TVRs.

At No. 9, Sony's crime fiction CID stands with 2.3 TVRs. It is interesting to note that the show has been able to register itself in the most watched shows list after a very long time (more than four months). The show's ratings have been in the range of 2-2.5 TVRs, throughout this duration.

At No. 10, Star Plus' culinary non-fiction show, Master Chef India 3, has garnered 2.2 TVRs.
