In his new role, Singh will report to Michael Lynton, chairman and CEO of Sony Entertainment, and Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures.

Singh replaces David Bishop; Sony Pictures will not renew its contract with Bishop in March. Bishop has been overseeing the home entertainment business of the company since 2006.

Man Jit Singh, the previous CEO of Multi Screen Media India, was recently succeeded by NP Singh, erstwhile COO of the company.

Man Jit Singh has now relocated to LA, USA to assume these responsibilities. At MSM, he will work as non-executive chairman.

Lynton says, "Man Jit is a savvy global executive with a long track record of success at Sony Pictures, having built our Indian TV channels into high-performance, high-margin businesses. I am confident in his vision for Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and his ability to provide strong leadership for the division as the marketplace continues to evolve."

Commenting on his new role, Man Jit Singh adds, "As the ways in which consumers experience our content continue to change and multiply, our organisation and its strategy for delivering content must evolve to meet the demands of the market. I look forward to building on the foundation of innovation and operational discipline at Sony Pictures Home Entertainment to position this business for future growth."

Man Jit Singh had been overseeing the television business of MSM India since 2009 when he was appointed as the interim CEO of MSM (formerly Sony Entertainment Television India) in February, when Kunal Dasgupta quit the company after a 14-year stint.

As the story goes, Man Jit Singh was given the responsibility of recruiting a new CEO for MSM India but after seeing the way Sony grew under his leadership, Andy Kaplan (president, Worldwide Networks, Sony Pictures Television) asked him to take up the role in September, 2009. Until then, Singh was the non-executive chairman of MSM and had moved to India from LA in 2007.
