GEC Watch: Star Plus, Zee TV lose numbers

However, the ranking of the GECs remains unchanged.

Despite losing eyeballs, Star Plus, Zee TV maintain their leadership in the Hindi general entertainment genre.

As per TAM data (HSM, 4+, C&S), provided by a subscriber, Star Plus lost 77252 GVTs to clock 649264 GVTs, in the week ended March 22. All the fiction shows of the channel saw a drop in their ratings. The possible reason of the loss could be the India Vs Pakistan match that was played on March 21 (Friday). However, six of its shows remain in the top 10 show's list. The channel had aired a special holi event on March 16 at 12.30 pm, titled 'Masti Gulal Ki', which registered a viewership of around 3200 TVTs.

Zee TV, meanwhile shed 12173 GVTs to conclude the week with 489111 GVTs. Four of its shows occupied positions in the top shows' chart. The channel had aired a three-hour special, 'Zee Holi Mahotsav- Ladakpan ke suhaane rang', on March 16 and March 17 that fetched an average viewership of 5100 TVTs.

Holding onto the third spot, Colors added 2492 GVTs to clock 467985 GVTs. The Viacom18 channel had aired the Mirchi Music Awards at 7 pm on March 16. The show witnessed performances from the who's who of the music industry as it generated a viwership of 3300 TVTs for the channel.

Colors also premiered the fifth season of Khatron Ke Khiladi on March 22. The show, hosted by Rohit Shetty this season, opened with 7600 TVTs. Three of Colors' shows featured in the top 10 list.

Life OK Hain' on March 17 at 8 pm collected a viewership of 5400 TVTs. The show is partnered with two more in the top shows' list.

Next in the ranking is Sab TV that recorded 325605 GVTs, 12964 down from the week 11 rating. 'Sab Ki Filmy Holi' on March 17 clocked 4400 TVTs. Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah made it to the top shows' list.

Next are Colors' Comedy Nights with Kapil that got around 8200 TVTs and Khatron Ke Khiladi that fecthed 7600 TVTs in the first episode of season 5.

SAB TV's Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah clocked 7300 TVTs and was placed at No.5.

Colors' Sasural Simar Ka and Zee TV's Do Dil Bandhe Ek Dori Se were next with 5400 TVTs.

For the record, the figures mentioned are approximate TVT figures. TVT is television viewership in 1000s (TVR in 1000). It is the average number of individuals in '000s that are available at any given minute of a programme/day part that is under consideration. It captures growth in TV audiences in the country in absolute numbers. The TVR system, in contrast, works on percentages.
