GEC Watch: Star Plus, Zee TV gain in week 27

Nothing has changed in the hierarchy of weekly ratings of Hindi GECs.

Star Plus, the leading Hindi general entertainment channel, has notched higher ratings in week 27 of TAM.

As per TAM data (HSM, C&S, 4+), Star India's flagship channel grossed 703493 GVTs, compared to 659904 GVTs in the previous week. A majority of its shows have seen improvement in viewership as six of them made it to the Top 10 Shows' list.

At No.2 is Zee TV with 479080 GVTs (last week 423066 GVTs). The channel has pushed two of its shows to the top shows' list. Following it is Life OK that clocked 347760 GVTs in the week ended August 2. The channel had grossed 358113 GVTs in the last week of TAM.

Colors garnered 320019 GVTs (last week 351407 GVTs) in week 27. Its comedy non-fiction has featured in the top shows' chart. Sony Entertainment Television (SET) closed the week with 287707 GVTs (last week 348733 GVTs). It younger sibling took the next spot with 275947 GVTs (last week 279874). Sab's Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma continues to be one of the most-watched shows in the genre.

Star Plus' Saath Nibhana Saathiya and Diya Aur Baati Hum occupied the first two spots in the top 10 most watched shows with 9402 and 9231 TVTs, respectively. They were followed by Zee TV's Jodha Akbar that fetched 7998 TVTs.

At No.4 is Star Plus' Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai that closed the week with 7401 TVTs, followed by Sab's Taarak Mehta ka Oolta Chashma with 7019 TVTs. The sixth and seventh spots are held by Star Plus' Mahabharat (6391 TVTs) and Zee TV's Kumkum Bhagya (6263 TVTs).

At No. 8 is Star Plus' Yeh Hai Mohabbatein with 5843 TVTs as Colors' Comedy Nights with Kapil - rated an average of 5834 TVTs - took the ninth position on the chart. Star Plus' Veera is at No.10 with 5398 TVTs.

For the record, TVT is television viewership in 1000s (TVR in 1000). It is the average number of individuals in '000s that are available at any given minute of a programme/day part under consideration. It captures growth in TV audiences in the country in absolute numbers. The TVR system, in contrast, works on percentages.
