Held across eight rounds, Super Formula (formerly known as Formula Nippon) has been running since 1973, with a driver roster that has names like Michael Schumacher, Eddie Irvine, Pedro De La Rosa and Ralf Schumacher.

This season's grid has India's Narain Karthikeyan driving for Team Impul Hoshino Racing, and several "highly-rated drivers" including former F1 pilots Vitantonio Liuzzi and Kazuki Nakajima. 'Twenty four hours of Le Mans'-winners and World Endurance Champions André Lotterer and Loïc Duval also feature, along with former Force India F1 test driver James Rossiter. The 2010 title winner João Paulo de Oliveira is Karthikeyan's teammate at Team Impul.

Nitin Kukreja, president - sports, Star India says, "We are extremely thrilled to partner JRP and showcase the Super Formula series in India, which with its fast-paced nature makes for an exceptional viewing experience. This association is in line with our aim of creating a multi-sport culture in India, and we're confident that the telecast of this exciting championship will fuel the growth of motor sports viewing in the country."

Kukreja adds that Karthikeyan's participation in the championship along with the other celebrated names has already sparked immense interest amongst the Indian audience. The series has also switched to a new Dallara SF14 chassis this year, and similar 2014 F1 regulations, the erstwhile V8 engines have been replaced by two-litre, 550 bhp turbocharged engines, the channel told the press.

The next round of the Super Formula series is scheduled to be held at the Autopolis Circuit (located near Kamitsue village in Ōita Prefecture, Japan). The race will be aired live on Star Sports 4 and Star Sports HD 2, at 10 am.

The next one will take place in Sportsland Sugo (a motorsports facility located in the town of Murata, Shibata District, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan) on September 28 and Suzuka Circuit (a motorsports race track located in Ino, Suzuka City, Mie Prefecture, Japan) on November 9.
