Pillai joined the organisation as general manager - sales and customer service, Godrej SaraLee, in June 2004. Since then, he worked in various capacities including head of marketing - Household Insecticide Business; vice president - marketing; managing director and CEO - Godrej South Africa; and most recently, head of marketing - India at GCPL.
An alumni of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) - Calcutta, Pillai has over 22 years of experience, and has worked with a few prominent brands such as Reckitt Benckiser, Reckitt & Colman, Balsara Home Products etc.
