TV channels asked to display 'objectionable ads' helpline

The information will be displayed in a scroller and will read as, "Objectionable ads? Complain to The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) 7710012345 ascionline.org".

In a recent advisory, the Ministry Of Information & Broadcasting has asked all TV channels to carry a scroller asking viewers to lodge complaints against objectionable advertisements. "No advertisement which violates the Code for self-regulation in advertising, as adopted by the Advertising Standards Council of lndia (ASCI), Mumbai for public exhibition in lndia, from time to time shall be carried in the cable service," the MIB advisory says.

The advisory further explains that it has been passed "in order to create mass consumer awareness about the self-regulatory mechanism of ASCI and for immediate and effective steps towards this goal".

TV channels have been advised to display the following information:

"Objectionable ads? Complain to The Advertising Standards Council of lndia (ASCI) 7710012345 ascionline.org"
