Scaled down Toblerone bar upsets sweet- toothed Brits

Toblerone bars get re-sized in Britain but continue to be sold elsewhere without changes.

Iconic chocolate brand Tobelerone has been facing huge customer backlash after changing the shape of its famous distinctive chocolate bars. A 'Tobler-moan' broke out on social media too as the product's makers Mondelez International have increased the gap between the peaks to reduce the weight of 400g and 170g bars.

Toblerone's spokespersons have denied that the reductions were related to any consequences of Brexit. The rising prices of ingredients milk and sugar, though have been cited as the main reason.

"We carry these costs for as long as possible, but to ensure Toblerone remains on shelf, is affordable and retains the iconic shape we all know and love, we have had to reduce the weight of this particular bar for the UK market", a spokeswoman adds.

International consumers however need not fret, as Mondelez exports Toblerone to 120 countries from a Swiss plant in Bern, and its main sales channel is duty-free outlets.
