“This Bar Saves Lives”

The brand’s name says it all. This snack bar brand donates nutrient packets to malnourished children around the world each time one of its products is purchased.

Actors Ryan Devlin and Todd Grinnell decided to co-found This Bar Saves Lives after a humanitarian trip to Liberia. Devlin is known for acting in the ABC show, Brothers & Sisters and the TV comedy Cougar Town while Grinnell has acted in the series Four Kings and Netflix original, One Day at a Time.

While abroad, the duo realised the impact of Plumpy’Nut, a “ready-to-use therapeutic food” that’s used to treat severe malnutrition. Back home, they decided to create a business that would help Plumpy’Nut get into the hands of those who need it most.

In the five years since it was founded, the company has donated more than 3.5 million packets around the world in countries including Haiti, the Philippines, South Sudan and Mexico. Read on for the how and why Grinnell and Devlin went for this world-changing project.
