VSNL launches Tata Indicom “Web Protect”, an innovative product that helps you manage the Internet access of your children and employees.
Tata Indicom Web Protect, brought in collaboration with Netsweeper Inc. of Canada, is a web filtering solution that enables users to block access to specific websites, chatrooms or any other unwanted content.
Tata Indicom Web Protect is a boon to parents who want their children to benefit from the extensive information, education and entertainment on the Internet, but at the same time wish to shield them from undesirable content and websites. Employers can use this solution to restrict employee access to select websites and thus increase work-place productivity. Tata Indicom Web Protect can be customized to filter 40 categories of Internet content.
This service is available to Tata Indicom's dial-up and Broadband subscribers.
The Tata Indicom Web Protect is a client-based solution: a 500 KB application installed on the PC can enable subscribers to apply different Internet access policies for every user who accesses the PC. Moreover, the access policies can be managed via the Internet, i.e. remote administration feature. This means that users can manage their children’s surfing even when they are away from home by simply logging on to the net and modifying the settings.
"This tool enhances employee productivity and enables children to broaden their horizons while minimizing the risk of their viewing inappropriate content. This is in keeping with our philosophy of offering innovative solutions at affordable prices," said Mr. Mukul Sood, Vice President – Content & Applications, Retail Broadband Business of VSNL.
Some of the key advantages & advanced features of Tata Indicom Web Protect are easy-to-use "Parental Control" interface; ability to create multiple profiles to customize Internet filter for various users at home or at work; over 40 categories to filter Internet content; ability to set time-based controls; customized reporting with detailed information like time, date, category, and address of the sites that were accessed and the ability to block protocols like email, file transfer, P2P and web chat.
