Three animated condoms preach 'Safe Sex'

The Three Amigos is a series of 20 comedic HIV/AIDS public service announcements (PSAs) conceived to destigmatise the condom and encourage responsible sexual behaviour. The animation initiative brings together world-leading talent from Canada, India and South Africa.

An entirely volunteer pro bono effort, the series of 20 PSAs features talking condom characters Shaft, Stretch and Dick in a humorous and light-hearted approach to safe sex. The project brings together producer Brent Quinn of South Africa, producer Firdaus Kharas of Canada and associate producer Jay Zaveri of India.

Future Thought Productions has completion the 20 high-quality animation shorts. Associate Producer Jay Zaveri said, "The project really interested me because it was an edgy way of tackling a really serious problem - battling the scourge of HIV/AIDS." Commenting on behalf of the 80-person international production team, producer Kharas said, "Future Thought went the extra mile for this project. We are very grateful for their magnificent contribution. Their efforts will help reduce the number of people who contract the HIV virus every day, which currently stands at a staggering 14,000 people".

Already the series has received overwhelmingly positive endorsements from across the globe, most notably by Nobel Laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu who has called the project "a significant contribution in raising awareness about AIDS prevention." The series has been gaining widespread support for its humour and non-threatening approach.

Kharas said his goal is to have a billion people see the series of PSA's. India is a top priority.
