Big Apple- a unit of Express Retail Services Pvt. Ltd, completed their I st phase of retail expansion & revolution in Delhi, on Saturday. The opening of the 65 th store at Karol Bagh was kick-started by the announcement of Mega Diwali promotions for Big Apple customers.

The inauguration event saw several customers participate in the schemes offered by Big Apple. The promotional offer launched by Big Apple is that, on every purchase of Rs. 300 the customer gets a Lucky Draw Coupon. The Bumper prize would be a Maruti Swift, 1 st prize- TVS Bike, 2nd prize- Return air tickets for a couple to Singapore, 3rd Prize- Refrigerators and other consolation prizes like washing machine, television, shirts and magpie gift hampers. There will be a daily draw for a return air ticket voucher to fly within India and a gold coin, at all stores of Big Apple. The offer will be open from 19th October 2007 to 11th November 2007 for all Big Apple customers.
Express Retail Services Pvt. Ltd, which began its journey from Delhi with the rolling out of 1st neighbourhood convenience store branded 'Big Apple', unveiled 64 new stores, thereby taking the tally of its stores in the capital to 65. All these stores are of average 2000 sq. feet format, and are owned by the company. Completion of this phase was the first step towards creating a mega retail chain across the country. Big Apple plans to open 100 stores as a part of their IInd phase, and 200 stores in the IIIrd phase of expansion in Delhi & NCR. After covering the National Capital Region, Big Apple will further expand into different geographies like Gujarat & Karnataka, to eventually have a pan-India footprint.
The 150 crore company's direct tie-up with farmers in Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, provides consumers with uninterrupted and qualitative product supply every single time. These stores provide direct employment and indirect job opportunities to thousands of people.
Big Apple convenience stores offer quality fruits, vegetables, groceries, bakery, dairy and frozen products at affordable prices to the customers. FMCG food and non-food products are also available. Big Apple also offers products like pulses, floor, spices etc. under its own label. At present, Big Apple is selling over 2500 food articles in its stores, which would be increased to over 4000 products over the next few months.
Industry estimates say that the country's retail industry is worth $300 billion, that is about Rs 13,50,000 crore. This stands a chance to blossom to $427 billion in the next four years. Organized retail accounts for just over Rs 35,000 crore. Big Apple bids to tap the potential for organized retail in the country.
