Validating GM India’s commitment to quality, three models of its flagship brand, Chevrolet were ranked the highest in their respective segments in the Automotive Initial Quality Study in India, released by J.D Power Asia Pacific 2007 India Initial Quality StudySM (IQS) today.
The new Chevrolet Spark leads the compact car segment with a score of 127 PP100, with the Chevrolet Aveo similarly topping the midsize segment with a score of 109 PP100. Meanwhile, the Chevrolet Optra (97 PP100) also ranks highest in the premium midsize segment. The Chevrolet Aveo U-VA and Chevrolet Tavera were not far from the lead and were both ranked second in the Premium Compact and MUV/ MPV segments, respectively. In effect, Chevrolet’s achievement is commendable - with leadership clearly established for all the five vehicle segments its products are offered in.
“The recent findings of the J.D Power Asia Pacific 2007 India Initial Quality StudySM (IQS) released today validate our commitment to bring world-class products to India. The impressive performance of all our carlines this year is also a clear indication of growing customer confidence in our vehicles,” said Mr. Karl Slym, President & Managing Director, GM India.
“The consistent surge in sales figures clearly demonstrates that Chevrolet has become the preferred automotive brand in India in terms of quality, styling, performance, value proposition and other product attributes”, added Mr. Slym.
The study, which serves as the industry benchmark for new-vehicle quality, is measured at two to six months of ownership. The ISQ examines more than 200 problem symptoms in two distinct categories—quality of design and quality of production—across eight vehicle components. Overall quality performance is based on both design quality and production quality problems per 100 vehicles (PP100), with lower scores indicating a lower rate of problem incidence and higher vehicle quality.
“Chevrolet’s performance in the 2007 India IQS is encouraging,” said Mohit Arora, senior director at J.D Power Asia Pacific, Singapore. “The recent model launches from the company, combined with its aggressive efforts in improving product quality, underscore the brand’s growing success in the Indian market.”
It may be recalled that GM India recently introduced yet another industry-first – the Chevrolet Promise, an assured cost of maintenance program for an ownership period of three years/ 45,000 km, whichever comes earlier. Under this innovative program, Chevrolet commits to the maximum amount that the customer will spend on maintenance of his vehicle for the abovementioned period. In case the amount spent by the customer is higher than the committed amount, a full refund of the difference can be claimed directly from GM India.
