Sachith Reddy has won the Indian Qualifier event to secure his place among the 32 best players at the FIFA Interactive World Cup Grand Final in Berlin, Germany on 24 May 2008.

Sachith said “I’m so excited and nervous to have won the India qualifier event.I can’t believe that I will represent my country in Berlin at the FIFA Interactive World Cup Grand Final. Hopefully I’ll bring home the title.”

The FIFA Interactive World Cup Qualifiers were taken across India starting with the capital city – New Delhi. Bangalore was the second stop and Mumbai hosted the national final.

Sachith Reddy has won an all expenses paid trip to Berlin to join a total of 32 of the cream of interactive football talent competing for the title of FIFA Interactive World Player 2008 and the US$20,000 prize money. The winner of the Grand Final will attend the FIFA World Player Gala in December 2008 where he will have the chance to meet some of the world’s elite male and female footballers.

“Brought to India by FIFA, Electronic Arts and PS3 this event has set the pace for the football gaming space in India. We saw tremendous response from all three cities and it was indeed exciting to watch so many players enthusiastically try their hand at the game and win a lifetime opportunity to compete with 31 other finalists from across the globe as well as getting the chance to win a FIFA World Cup event”, said Ajay Khanna, General Manager, Electronic Arts. “It feels great to be able to watch the gaming community come together and really grow in a country like India that is still in its infancy when it comes to gaming. The response to this event certainly proves that we have some exciting times ahead of us”, added Atindriya Bose, General Manager, Sony Computer Entertainment.

The Indian Qualifier is one of 21 live qualifier events taking place across the six continents between October 2007 and April 2008 along with the online qualification on the PS* network culminating in the FIWC Grand Final in Berlin on 24 May 2008.

As the world’s only FIFA sanctioned global video game tournament, the FIFA Interactive World Cup combines both on and off-line football gaming action with EA’s FIFA 08 on PlayStation®3 and PlayStation®Network. Last year’s competition in which thousands of contestants from six continents battled for a place in the final was won by 17 year old Andries Smit from Amsterdam, Holland. He was crowned the third-ever FIFA Interactive World Player 2006 at the occasion of the FIFA World Player Gala in Zurich from countryman and former Dutch international player Edgar Davids.
