Company release, August 31, 2004
New Delhi
Wrigley, the world's leading manufacturer of chewing gums launches Orbit, India's first sugar-free chewing gum in India. Priced at Rs 5 Orbit will be available in major cities across the country.
The launch of this chewing gum holds special significance today as our eating habits have changed tremendously over the last two decades. Our diet includes more processed foods, snacks and soft drinks, which contain a high proportion of sugar, salt and fat. This leads to the danger of teeth being susceptible to plaque acids, which leads to manifold increase in demineralization.
It is clinically proven that chewing of sugar free chewing gum like Orbit for 20 minutes after meal helps protect against tooth decay by up to 40% by stimulating saliva production. Saliva plays an essential role in controlling the environment of the teeth. If the pH level in the mouth falls below the critical level due to eating sugars in food and drinks, the tooth starts to dissolve or demineralize, which causes tooth decay. In fact the benefit of chewing of sugar free chewing gum like Orbit on dental health is recognized by the FDI (World Dental Federation- the global authoritative body representing dentists worldwide).
So make sure, you chew sugar free chewing gum after you eat for good oral heath care.
