Company Brief
Mumbai, March 31, 2008
Epicor Software Corporation (NASDAQ: EPIC) - a leading provider of enterprise business software solutions to the midmarket and Global 1000 companies, today announced it has been officially named as the first software vendor to receive a notice of integration by Medicare Australia for online claiming, under the new Aged Care Funding Instrument (ACFI) initiative, introduced on March 20, 2008.
The Aged Care Funding Instrument is the classification instrument underpinning the new funding model to pay subsidies to Residential Aged Care Services. As part of the government's $1.6 billion Securing the future of Aged Care for Australians initiative, ACFI will replace the existing Resident Classification Scale and has been designed to better match funding to the complex care needs of residents. It will also reduce documentation required and achieve higher levels of agreement between aged care staff and department review officers.
Under the new funding instrument, aged care providers are able to process care assessments electronically. Given that it is much faster than paper-based forms, electronic submission significantly reduces staff time required to prepare and submit paperwork. Aged Care service providers will be able to send ACFI data to Medicare Australia electronically through Medicare Australia's Online Claiming Business-to-Business (B2B) and file upload channel, which requires software development by a registered software vendor, or Medicare Australia's ACFI Web form. However, if a service provider is unable to submit the ACFI assessment via electronic channels, then paper-based ACFI assessments can be sent to and processed by Medicare Australia staff.
The Epicor Senior Living Solution (SLS) incorporates Residential Aged Care, Retirement Living and Community Care. With the introduction of ACFI, Epicor SLS will now not only encompass ACFI appraisals, it will also incorporate ACFI into funding calculations, reconciliation and updating to the General Ledger for financial reporting.
As the first software vendor to receive a notice of integration for ACFI Online Claiming in accordance with Government legislation, Epicor will enable its customers, which include a selection of Australia's largest aged care providers, to significantly reduce staff time required to prepare and submit paperwork, improve the accuracy of aged care payments and related data and provide acknowledgement that forms and information have been received and processed by Medicare Australia.
John Stuart, CEO, Twilight Aged Care, a not-for-profit organization and customer of Epicor also commented, "Epicor has been incredibly supportive in the build up to the introduction of ACFI, in addition to other legislation being introduced around the government's Securing the Future of Aged Care package. They made it very simple for us to accommodate all the necessary changes, which in many cases were particularly complex. Through its SLS solution, Epicor helped automate the entire process which would otherwise have been a very laborious and complicated task."
Also commenting on the announcement, Scott Whiteside, Systems Accountant, Amity Group said, "When the Aged Care Funding Instrument was first announced, it represented unprecedented change for our organization. With 48 aged care homes throughout Australia, we felt Epicor was especially vigilant in tailoring its SLS solution to align with the legislative changes presented by ACFI and enable Amity to prepare for transition onto the ACFI online claiming system."
Finally Craig Charlton, Vice President Australasian Operations, Epicor Software said, "As a leading provider of business software solutions to companies throughout a number of industry sectors, Epicor has drawn on its global resources to ensure all of its customers in the aged care sector are ready for, and compliant with the new legislations outlined in the government's Securing the Future of Aged Care initiative. Without having a reliable and world recognized software vendor such as Epicor, and taking the necessary steps to be prepared for the changes outlined under ACFI, aged care providers run the risk of incurring significant potential overheads."
Epicor released its first version of the ACFI appraisal capture and subsidy calculation module in Q4 2007. It wanted a selection of both its larger and
smaller customers to Beta test the solution, providing feedback and input before they finalised the necessary changes. Amity Group, Masonic Homes Inc. and Twilight Aged Care volunteered in this testing and as a result have been invaluable in enabling Epicor to incorporate a robust, user-friendly and compliant ACFI solution within Epicor SLS.
