Marcco Ricci launches at the LOFT

It may well be the first of its kind in India: a fashion show devoted entirely to shoes.

On the 3rd of March 2003, some of Mumbai's top male and female models Bunty Garewal, Shahwar Ali, Rajeev Singh, Nethra Raghuraman, Tapur Chatterjee, just to name a few, stepped out a little more stylishly than usual in a range of fine leather shoes from Marcco Ricci.

The new high fashion brand was launched at the LOFT, India's largest footwear store, at Hiranandani Gardens in Powai, Mumbai. The 18, 000 sq.ft. store was packed with celebrities, Atul Agnihotri, Sherrin Varghese of ABOB, Gauhar Khan, renowned photographer Ashok Salian, Sanjay Gupta - Director - Kaante, just to name a few, but the focus was on the footwear.

Designed and made in Italy, each item on the show was a tribute to the art of shoemaking. The show kicked off with singer Hazel Naronha, dressed like Liza Minelli, crooning away the Frank Sinatra number New York, New York. In addition to the fashion show, which was choreographed by Achala Sachdev, there was an excellent audiovisual presentation by Sanjay Gupta, director of the hit movie Kaante. It used images from the chic Marcco Ricci advertising campaign, posters of which were also on display. The star of all this was the newly designated brand ambassador for Marcco Ricci, Sanjay Dutt. His appearance on the ramp elicited gasps and cheers from the audience.

Known to be fastidious about his clothes and accessories, Mr. Dutt has rarely endorsed a product. The elegance he exudes in the Marcco Ricci campaign, shot by Ashok Salian and designed by Shabnam Sirur is sure to have advertising agencies queuing up at his door.

The shoes themselves will have customers queuing up at The Loft, which has exclusive selling rights for the initial phase of the Launch. Mr. Susil Dungarwal, the driving force behind The Loft, is extremely pleased to have engineered this coup. Mehboob and Mansoob Haider of ANZ Corp, The Company that has brought Marcco Ricci to India, are just as pleased. "We have a great product," they say, " and The Loft is a great place to showcase it.
