The new Ultra-Low Voltage Intel® Core 2 solo processor enables a host of new, very thin consumer laptop PC designs with long battery life and at mainstream price points such as the Acer Aspire Timeline Series. These processors run cooler (TDP-10W) than the standard volt processors (TDP 25W-35W), thus enabling very thin (0.8"-1") laptops that are quieter and typically have longer battery life (over 7 hours with a 57WHr battery). For computer users particularly interested in thin and light platforms, these products offer the best possible tradeoff between space, weight, performance, power and price.
"Time is precious but elusive. We try to capture it, but it's always fleeing. This has now come to an end. The new Acer Aspire Timeline series marks the beginning of a new era in mobile computing, an era when you have more time to get things done, stay connected and enjoy entertainment" said Mr WS Mukund, Managing Director, Acer India
The most interesting part of this exercise is that Acer achieved this extraordinary result not by adding but by reducing. Acer based the new Timeline series notebooks on a simple yet revolutionary idea. Instead of making laptops with bulkier and heavier batteries so that they could have more backup time, Acer came up with a formula, which is a paradigm shift from the conventional wisdom that existed in the mobile computing world. The Timeline series marks the launch of a series of notebooks, which are more efficient, capable of reducing energy consumption to the minimum, makes the promise of ‘All day computing" a reality to common consumer and all this at no added weight (Thin & Light) combined with mainstream price points.
The result is more than eight hours battery life, so that you don't have to worry about running out of power in the middle of something important, and you have more time to learn, have fun and be productive.
"Acer is focused on bringing technology that value adds to the consumer needs regardless of market conditions" states S Rajendran, Chief Marketing Officer, Acer India ."Consumers today want longer battery life, thin and light form factors with great processing technology at affordable prices. Through our partnership with Intel and their Ultra Low Processor Core ™ 2 solo solutions we are pleased to bring leadership technology and notebook PC value to consumers worldwide"
"Performance, battery life, form factor and wireless connectivity are the four vectors of mobility and consumers base their purchase decision on these. With the new Intel® Ultra-Low Voltage (ULV) processor family, notebooks can now measure under an inch thick, weigh much less than before and include wireless options such as Intel® My WiFi or WiMAX and yet be affordable for mainstream consumers. We are pleased to work with the Acer Group to being the new Aspire Timeline series which uses the ULV processors from Intel to the Indian market," said Prakash Bagri, Director – Marketing, Intel South Asia.
Acer designed the Aspire Timeline notebooks with the Acer Smart Power key which helps the customer to access power on-demand. The Acer Smart Power key extends battery life through advanced settings. By activating the Smart Power key option the customer can boost power saving capabilities and extend battery life of the notebooks, thus expanding the backup on the Timelines series even beyond 8 hours.
Specifically designed for energy-efficient performance, the Aspire Timeline series features numerous innovative solutions as a result of the new Intel platform. Key features include nearly 2x more transistors and lower leakage than 65nm technologies, delivering new levels of performance and power efficiency. A 1066 MHz Front Side Bus (FSB) to offer faster performance as compared to the previous generation 800MHz FSB, Intel® HD Boost for faster performance on such intensive multimedia applications as High-Definition (HD) video encoding. The 6MB L2 Cache for performance improvements for data-intensive applications and Deep Power Down Technology to shut down processor cores and L2 cache when they are not needed for greater energy efficiency. As a result, the system efficiency is greatly increased, reducing power consumption and boosting battery life by up to 40%. The new platform is complemented by the Mobile Intel® GS40 Express Chipset, which is the new Intel chipset for new ultra-thin laptops for consumers.
While designing the Aspire Timeline series, Acer broke another barrier: creating the finest and lightest notebooks to provide all-day computing at mainstream price points. At its thinnest point the Aspire Timeline is just 24 mm thick (less than one inch) and thanks to the aluminum cover it's a featherweight, ranging from 1.6 kg (3.5 lb) for the 13.3" model up to just 2.4 kg (5.3 lb) for the 15.6", making it both lighter and easier to carry around than anything else. The Aspire Timeline opens up a new dimension where lightness and more time meet and you have total freedom to get things done unhurriedly anywhere you want.
One of the main complaints people have had about notebooks is that they produce heat and after a while of using them on your lap becomes uncomfortable. Acer Aspire Timeline uses a cooling technology designed to improve user experience. Developed in collaboration with Intel, Laminar Wall Jet exploits a technology that has been used successfully for cooling turbine blades. Through the addition of louvers to the inlet vents, the cooling airflow is redirected along the bottom side of the notebook chassis, putting fresh air precisely where it's needed to better cool the skin.
The Aspire Timeline Series complies with the strictest Energy Star 5.0 prerequisites. This means that to earn an Energy Star label, the notebook must be more efficient also when using the power adapter. Acer Power Smart adapter does even more, as it consumes 66% less than required by Energy Star: this means that it saves 1,752 watt per year, the equivalent of a 15 watt bulb to be lit for 116 days. Plus, the Power Smart adapter enters adaptive charging mode automatically when the battery is fully charged this stops consuming energy and reduces the tear and wear on the battery.
With the Acer Timeline notebooks the limits of space and time become blurred taking you in a dimension where you are the master of your time.
