SOS Children's Villages celebrated the 60th Anniversary of its existence. To commemorate the occasion with grace & a passion, SOS Children's Villages of India organised an Inter Village Dance Competition at SOS Children's Village, Sector-29, Faridabad. The theme of the Dance Competition was classical and folk symbolising the true colours of Incredible India. The graceful dance ceremony was held in the presence of Mr. Helmut Kutin, President, SOS Kinderdorf International, President and Members of Board of SOS-India and 14 Asian National Directors. The dance competition was judged by the esteemed dance laureates: Ms. Kavita Dwibedi (renowned Odissi danseuse), Ms. Seerat Narindra (eminent producer & choreographer) and Ms. Madhura Pathak (renowned Kathak danseuse)
The finalists of the exceptional dance event were the four zonal winners from SOS Children's Villages across India. The Competition started with the dazzling Badhai Dance by the children of Bhopal SOS village representing the liveliness of west. It was followed by the Mhasaiylam Dance by children of Trichur depicting the festivals of Kerala. The eastern flavour was depicted in the folk dance on Song of Fisherman, brilliantly performed by the children of Kolkata village. The Gujarati Dandiya performance by children of Bawana village spread the enthusiasm of north.
Elated Mr. Helmunt Kutin, President, SOS Kinderdorf International, said, "60 years ago Dr. Hermann Gmeiner, our founder, started the first SOS Village in Austria. His simple and yet so meaningful idea is today canvassed into a beautiful picture of childcare. Late Ms. Tara Ali Baig and Late Mr. J.N. Kaul have been instrumental in taking forward our founder's mission in India. I am privileged to present the ‘SOS Ring of Honour' to our mothers as appreciation for their selfless love and dedication towards the parentless children."
The solo performances on ‘mayur', ‘odissi', ‘hut nut khut' and ‘curd seller' took the audience and judges by admiration. A special dance performance by the differently abled children of SOS Khajuri Kalan Children's Village, left everybody thinking that nothing is impossible if one has will to go for it.
On the occasion, Mr. S. Sandilya, President, SOS Children's Villages of India said, "We are indeed proud that SOS Kinderdorf International has successfully completed 60 years of care and humanity towards needy children. The seed grown by Dr. Hermann Gmeiner, our founder, 60 years ago is today spread across 132 countries with 500 SOS villages. We are thankful to our donors from across the world who despite of global recession, still continued to extend their helping hand for our children. We at SOS maintained enough of surplus and funds to help us withstand recession. SOS is a unique model, perfected over time and still has a long way to go. The care and compassion which mothers have towards the children is unprecedented.
The curtains to the gala event came down with a felicitation ceremony that judged the Odissi dance by Vijayashree Dhal as the Best Solo Performance of the Day. The Mhasaiylam Dance by children of Trichur was judged as the Best Group Performance. Mr. Rakesh Jinsi, National Director SOS Children's Villages of India, extended his gratitude to the dignitaries, mothers and children of SOS. He said, "Children today have exhibited the purity, energy and vibrance which are there in their souls. The mothers who have been awarded with ‘SOS Ring of Honour' for their distinguished services are a depiction of their selfless service towards humanity."
