The most coveted award of the animation industry is back on an even bigger platform. The 24 FPS Awards this year has a record over 800 participants with more than 200 film entries from across India for 21 different award categories. Young animators will be vying for the top honours in award categories like Best Animated Short Film, Best Television Commercial, Best Visual Effects Feature Film, Best Game Design, among many others.

Organised by Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC) since 2003, the 24 FPS is known to celebrate animation works of student animators and industry professionals. This year’s chosen theme for 24 FPS is LOVE, the strongest expression of all emotions. Students and professionals have submitted their creative work on this theme to be considered for the awards that will be held on November 6th, 2009 at SRPF Grounds in Mumbai.

This year too 24 FPS has received a whopping response from Bollywood studios and industry professionals. Some of the entries include Quick Gun Murugan,

What’s your Rashee, Chandni Chowk To China, Ghajini, Raaz The Mystery Continues, Delhi 6 and 8x10 Tasveer who will compete for the Best Studio Category award. In the advertisements section entries have come from TVCs like Happy Dent Wave, Coke, Chlormint, Videocon LCD and Whirlpool Water Purifier who will compete for the Best TVC of the year.

Notably, the 24 FPS Awards has gone global this year, with entries this time from animation students of Canada and China. In its 6th edition, the award has received as many as 14 international entries this year. The event promises to be much bigger than ever before, and is poised to establish itself as a red letter day in the global animation community’s calendar.

“24 FPS Awards is an initiative to bring forth fresh animation talent on a common platform as the industry experts and stalwarts. The objective of the award is to identify, showcase and reward creativity from all corners of India and beyond, thus making it the most respectable and renowned ‘Education Awards’ not only in the country but also internationally. This year we have received some of the best entries from international professionals and studios, says Mr. Sanjiv Waeerkar, Chief Creative Officer, MAAC.

Few of the jury members who will make a difference to award function with their valuable inputs are Mr. Kireet Khurana of 2NZ, Mr. Merzin Tavaria from Prime Focus, Ms. Shelley Page from DreamWorks Animation and Mr. Nilesh Sardesai from Prana, Mr. Krishnakant Mishra of Sony Imageworks among the other renowned industry professionals.

“As 24 FPS has entered its 6th annual edition, we wanted to take it to a different level as compared to its previous editions and what better way to give audiences the power to judge an entry of their choice. Introducing the Viewers Choice awards in 24 FPS is aimed to take the awards beyond the animators and professional fraternity. The new award will engage the youth in the target age group that we cater to. So, this year people from anywhere can cast their vote on social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Orkut, which have all the 73 entries uploaded on the sites,” Mr. Waeerkar added.
