Satara Foundation tie up with Clearwater Consulting to promote hope and fashion in India

Satara Foundation, a Dutch Foundation working to improve the quality of life for women in India, has announced its tie-up with Clearwater Consulting, a Mumbai based marketing consulting firm, to create a marketing platform for their products in India.

Satara Foundation was started by Moniek van Ervin of Amsterdam, after doing volunteer work for Mann Desi Mahila Micro-Credit Bank in Village Mhaswad in Maharashtra. The foundation focuses on providing underprivileged women in India with education, entrepreneurial support, and access to the global trading markets on fair conditions.

Clearwater Consulting will provide support to Satara Foundation to successfully showcase their 2009/10 collection in the Indian market and help them grow their business here.

Satara Foundation recently conducted an eight week intensive training course in Hubli, where 15 underprivileged women were trained to produce a fashion collection. Graduates from the Amsterdam Fashion Institute taught the seamstresses to use modern sewing machines, to work with organic textiles, and to sew according to Western quality standards. They let the women exercise their creativity and improve their traditional sewing skills, such as refined embroidery, through the program.

The 2009/10 collection draws inspiration from khadi, which embodies ideas of freedom, autonomy, truth and closeness to nature and embroidery forms an integral part of the collection. A notable aspect of the collection is the idea of introducing the buyers to the seamstresses, through a track and trace system created by Satara. The tag on each garment has a Hindi sign that represents the woman who made that specific garment. Customers can follow that sign on the Satara Foundation website (www.satarafashion.com) where they will find the life story of that woman.
