MakeMyTrip employs IT innovations as a competitive differentiator. To demonstrate support for the need to share learnings in the area of Usability, MakeMyTrip commemorated the World Usability Day (WUD) through a day-long event hosting expert-talks and dialogues at its Head Office in Gurgaon. Through this event, the company hopes to focus attention on issues about usability and sustainable design.
Speaking about this initiative, Mr. Rajnish Kapur, Chief Innovation Officer, MakeMyTrip said, "The MakeMyTrip success story is built upon our ongoing efforts and investment in IT innovations. Through this event we attempted to provide a platform to initiate discussions on Usability – not just in the sphere of Information technology but also sustainable designing, green architecture, and designing for accessibility. We hope to spark off multiple conversations amongst relevant stakeholders and demonstrate our commitment towards supporting IT innovations."
World Usability Day promotes the value of usability, usability engineering, user-centered design, universal usability, and every user's responsibility to ask for things that work better. It was initiated, and continues to be sponsored by, the Usability Professionals' Association, a group dedicated to "those who promote and advance the development of usable products, reaching out to people who act as advocates for usability and the user experience". In 2008, there were over 200 WUD events in over 43 countries.
The theme for 2009 is ‘Designing for a Sustainable World'. The event focused on how products and services impact our world. The scope was not limited to Information Technology – with experts sharing opinions on products and services ranging from buildings, roads, consumer products, businesses, services or healthcare systems throughout their life cycle. Apala Lahiri Chavan from Humanfactors.com was the Keynote Speaker and Guest of Honor at the event.
World Usability Day 2009 will serve as an impetus to creating greater awareness for designing products and services around human life that improve the sustainability of the world ensuring simplicity and accessibility.
WUD was founded in 2005 as an initiative of the Usability Professionals' Association to ensure that services and products important to human life are easier to access and simpler to use.
