The Sun emits more energy every 15 minutes than what human kind uses in the entire year. Solar and wind energy are natural, inexhaustible and reliable sources of power. BPL has created a portfolio of solar energy products, alternative luminaires using LED technology that gives customers the ability to harness the power of the Sun for their energy requirements affordably and reliably.

The Chairman and Managing Director of BPL Limited, Mr.Ajit G Nambiar said," Solar powered lighting and energy management systems have been developed not only to deploy renewable energy and its integration with the existing electricity network, but also to efficiently manage its use".

Electrical energy is a resource that will continue to remain in short supply over the next decade. Like any scarce resource it needs to be efficiently managed. Renewable energy is now adding to this energy resource pool.

Explaining further he said, ‘this is a unique business value chain which starts with the consumer and not with our capability or technology. We are using consumer insights to determine the key issues that people face in everyday life, for instance, opportunities of improving efficiency in energy use, and the physical and emotional barriers in adopting a parallel energy network, then designing systems that address these issues. We have identified people, technology and products from across the world, so that the consumer will get the best of both cost and technology."

The products to be launched initially will be the dual power lighting systems and LED based luminaires which would be tough, reliable, affordable and easy to use. This will be followed by SMART home power

management systems that will allow consumers to manage electricity consumption through a touch screen graphic user interface that will be wirelessly linked with all electrical gadgets. BPL is also working on large installations for multiple dwelling units which will use renewable energy in parallel with conventional networks to power lights and for low drain applications.

The products that will be available are the CFL / LED based Solar/AC dual powered rechargeable lanterns, LED bulbs, LED tubes and Solar LED street lighting systems. All these and more are at display in the LED EXPO on 18.
