Colgate-Palmolive (India) Limited, the market leader in oral care, announced the winners of 150 scholarships from the Colgate 'Learn and Earn' offer. The offer received an overwhelming response from consumers across the country with over 130,000 entries.

The offer which was especially designed to enable consumers to learn the 5 simple oral care tips and earn scholarships worth Rs.10,000 each was launched in July 2009 by Colgate as part of its continuous effort to improve oral hygiene in the country. The key focus of this campaign was to reach out to consumers and not only educate them about the basic oral care habits but also support them in their educational endeavour through scholarships.

To participate in the offer, consumers had to learn the 5 simple oral care tips that were available on 200 gm and 100 gm packs of Colgate Dental Cream. These were also available on the Colgate website: www.colgate.co.in. Once the consumers learnt these tips, they had to send an SMS to the number provided on the back of the pack and respond to one simple oral care question.

Mr. Rajesh Krishnamurthy, VP Marketing, Colgate-Palmolive (India) Limited said, "The incidence of dental problems is as high as 90 per cent in India and one of the key issues is lack of awareness. In fact one out of 2 children in India suffers from tooth decay. As market leaders, it is our responsibility to bridge the awareness gap and that is why we are constantly innovating and reaching out to consumers. It has been our continuous endeavour to develop programs that help create awareness about the need for oral hygiene, through school activities and other initiatives."

"We are delighted with the overwhelming response that the Colgate Learn & Earn offer has generated. We received over 130,000 entries of which 150 scholarship winners were selected. I would like to congratulate not only the winners who received the scholarship but also all the consumers who participated in the campaign," he further added.

Winners from Bhopal, Ahmedabad and Chennai were awarded the scholarships at special ceremonies organised by Colgate. Star Voice of India contestant and playback singer Priyani Vani, awarded the scholarships to winners from Bhopal. In Gujarat, Parag Kansara, contestant from the Great Indian Laughter Challenge awarded scholarships to the four local winners. The Chennai winners received their scholarships from well-known television anchor Ramya.

Mr. Bhagwan Das Lalwani, one of the lucky winners, said, "I am glad that I won the Colgate scholarship money as it gives me an opportunity to give back to society. I will donate the scholarship money to an orphanage which will fund the education of the underprivileged children."

Mr. Sunil Kumar Gupta, also a winner said, "I am extremely happy that I participated in this offer and won the scholarship. I am thankful to Colgate who gave me the scholarship money which will aid in my son's education."

As leaders in oral care in India, Colgate has always worked ceaselessly to create widespread oral care awareness through school programs like Bright Smiles, Bright FuturesTM which reaches out to children in primary schools spreading the message of basic oral care hygiene. Colgate Learn & Earn Offer is one more such initiative to engage with consumers and emphasize the importance of oral care hygiene.
