The key point of the Discover India quiz is the state-of-the art voting technology employed in which the questions are responded to through a wireless remote which enables instant tabulation in classrooms at the end of the quiz.
Speaking at the launch of Discover India, Mr. Anupam Kher said, "It will be a marvelous experience as children take a journey through their motherland and discover little-known things about its history, geography, literature, achievements in science, sports and other endeavours. Apart from publicly recognizing, rewarding and praising the young participants, Discover India will leave children and teachers more enriched, enlightened, amazed and a little more in love with India."
Mr. Harish Motwani, founder Director & CEO of Rubberband Infotainment Ventures, the other JV partner of Unite India Educom Pvt. Ltd., profiled the larger canvas of the campaign which aims at engaging young Indians in the nation building process, not only through a technology driven, interesting quiz programme but also through social networking platforms, web and mobile based applications. Mr. Motwani also stated that the allure of Discover India among corporates was so strong, that even before the programme had been formally announced, several companies had expressed an interest to associate themselves with it. He announced that the US technology major Symantec Corporation, makers of Norton Anti-virus software, had already come on board as associate sponsors.
The highlight of the media interface was the staging of the first quiz show, with all the technological support, among a batch of school children. The response from the children was exciting and the quiz was engaging.
Discover India is supported by the Ministry of Tourism's 'Incredible India' initiative.
The Discover India quiz will be organized in more than 2000 schools across India with no costs charged to the school. Schools will have to visit the website and register themselves for the quiz. Students from class 5th to 12th will face 20 Audio-Visual questions and get 20 seconds to answer each question. The answers will be tracked by an Audience Response System mechanism and published on the website of the campaign. An appropriate rewarding structure for the students and the schools has also been incorporated. The Mega Finals, which will be nationally televised, will be held on 26th January at Mumbai with Mr. Anupam Kher as Quiz Master.
