Indian Retail School (IRS), India's premier retail management institute recently organized a unique workshop on "Visual Merchandising" at its campus premises. The objective of this workshop was to create awareness among the students and retail professionals about the mushrooming but unexplored Visual Merchandising & Store Design domain. The workshop was conducted by Ms. Surbhi Jain, Programme Leader of PG Diploma in Visual Merchandising & Store Design, Indian Retail School.
Realizing the growing importance and scope of Visual Merchandising, Ms. Surbhi Jain said "It is very much important for the students to understand what is Visual Merchandising and Store Design. This is an area where the Indian retail industry, particularly, the small retailers lack adequate knowledge and expertise. This inadequacy is best reflected in poor presentation or display and communication in various retail formats".
Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Tarun Panwar, Chief Executive Officer, Indian Retail School said, "This workshop is a platform for the participants to identify the potential in them and start thinking in innovative fashion. They were introduced to Visual Merchandising concepts, emerging trends in displays and career path in the stream."
The workshop showcased the transformation of retail over ages in context to visual merchandising and product presentation. A comparative analysis was conducted to communicate the gap between Indian display standards vis-à-vis international standards.
Visual Merchandising is now an emerging career field. It is the art of presentation, which puts the merchandise in focus. It educates the customers, creates desire and finally augments the selling process.
