SMS GupShup, India's largest mobile social network, today announces that they have crossed 35 million users in India. The company continues to outpace Google Orkut, Facebook and Twitter, as those networks' user base is smaller than SMS GupShup's. As SMS GupShup continues to grow in India, one of the fastest growing mobile markets in the world, it is currently expanding into other territories as well with new and innovative products.

SMS GupShup's popularity is due to the penetration of mobile phones in India. The country currently has about a 10-1 mobile to PC ratio, with SMS serving as the most pervasive communication platform. The company has doubled its message processing in just six months.

The social network has attracted a broad base of audiences ranging from sports fans to religious groups to commuters interested in up to the minute traffic alerts. Currently over 3.5 M groups exist on SMS GupShup, compared to 2 million groups eight months ago, marking the significant increase in publishers and advertisers who are using this platform. Premier communities can be found here: http://www.smsgupshup.com/communities.

The SMS Gupshup community has already been used by over 150 advertisers looking to target India's emerging mass market. Those brands include Microsoft, eBay, pepsi, Cadbury, Nokia, Ford, Nike, Maybelline, Dell, Kingfisher, Sun Microsystems and ING Financial. Brands can run SMS ads and create branded communities, very similar to fan sites that appear on traditional web-based social networks.

SMS GupShup is now expanding into the Philippines, often called the texting capital of the world, with carrier based products. Social SMS is expected to grow in stature as a mobile networking tool, and will make it easier for people in these countries to be social and keep in touch without ever having to access the internet. The opportunities for brands, businesses and carriers will multiply both in the form of content and advertising.

"As we expand into new territories, we remain confident that our service will be helpful, fun, and interesting to a wide variety of users. We can see through our users in India that people of all ages and backgrounds are looking to engage via mobile, and we will continue to offer an outstanding platform to communicate on," says SMS GupShup
