A study by Jeevansathi.com, India's fastest growing matrimonial site shows that Grooms who are civil servants by profession get maximum number of marriage 'initiates' on the site. On the other hand women working in the field of HR top the list of most preferred profession for brides. It has also been revealed that working women are preferred over home makers in arranged marriages.
On the research Rohit Manghnani, Business Head, Jeevansathi.com said, "Men are seeking women who have steady low pressure jobs. So while they want a working woman at the same time they would prefer someone who can take care of their home. Women on the other hand seek both stability and stature which is why their families and they approach Civil servants despite their transferrable jobs."
When we look at the profession based preferences for brides then girls working in HR and Admin seem to be the most popular. A lady working in HR/Admin receives 69% more "initiates" than females who are home makers. IT Software and Banking professionals receive about 62% and 44% more initiates than non working women. This clearly proves that working women are much more in demand than homemakers.
On the other hand, when we look at professional preferences of grooms then a civil servant receives maximum marriage "initiates" on his profile. A civil servant receives 12% more initiates than the second most preferred profession, Software Development and 50% more initiates than the third profession preference which is Banking. Professionals in Marketing and Defence services take the close fourth and fifth position in the popularity list of grooms. This shows that even to date an IAS/IPS/ IFS etc officer is considered as the most suitable match in case of arranged marriages. This may be owing to reputation and power that these professions hold, apart from the stability these jobs offer, especially after the slowdown when professionals in the private sector saw an insecure job environment.
