New Zealand - a country already known for its pristine environment and fresh foods, chose India for the launch of its new apple brand '100% Pure Apples from New Zealand' today.

The launch took place in Mumbai, and was attended by New Zealand cricket legend Sir Richard Hadlee, who enjoys New Zealand apples so much that he personally visited India to introduce them here.

"New Zealand apples are known around the world for their delicious taste, combined with their healthy qualities, and I think people here in India will really enjoy them - from kids to cricket stars," says Sir Richard.

New Zealand exporters have consolidated their offering under one umbrella brand, so consumers in India will be able to easily identify the premium quality New Zealand apples.

Produced in some of the most nourished orchards, 100% Pure Apples from New Zealand adhere to the strictest quality, traceability and food safety compliances. The apples also attest to their name - 100% Pure Apples from New Zealand are grown using the worlds most advanced fruit production system. This unique system promotes only the most environmentally sustainable practices to ensure New Zealand apples are the safest in the world.

Over the years, popular New Zealand varietals such as Royal Gala, Pacific Queen and Pacific Rose, have proven that New Zealand apples are not only delicious, but also tasty and nutritious. Through the launch in India, the brand hopes to reach out to not only the increasingly health-conscious consumer, but also to the suppliers of fresh apples. The New Zealand apple industry is looking to find supply chain partners for the commercialisation of exclusive new varieties and Indian growers who wish to access to the most advanced horticultural practices.

Speaking at the event, New Zealand Consul General and Trade Commissioner, Gavin Young says, "It is significant that India has been chosen as the first market that this brand is being launched, as it indicates the growing relationship between India and New Zealand and the importance that New Zealand companies place on that relationship."

Gary Jones, Services Manager from Pipfruit New Zealand says that the New Zealand Industry wants to work with Indian growers to develop the market.

"New Zealand is at the forefront of the development of new apple varieties and in growing harvesting and packing technology. We are keen to work with the Indian growers and in April will be welcoming a Ministerial-led mission from Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand to see how the New Zealand industry works," he says.

New Zealand apples are sold in the alternate season to Indian apples.

New Zealand has long been at the helm of innovation in the food industry. It has embraced a forward-looking approach with its world-class technology and the commitment to quality produce by introducing practices such as the integrated fruit production system and pure production programmes.

100% Pure Apples from New Zealand will be available across major stores such as Hypercity, Spar, Spencers, Godrej Natures Basket, Reliance and all fruit vendors.
