Age of a Kirloskar pump, 51 years and still counting

Kirloskar Brothers Limited (KBL), the largest manufacturers and exporters of Pumps in India, had launched a unique Customer Loyalty Program called as 'Oldest Pump Contest', on 11th October 2010. This was to commemorate the centenary year of Kirloskarvadi manufacturing plant. KBL received an overwhelming response with more than 200 entries qualifying the terms and conditions of the contest.

On detailed scrutiny and verification of the entries received, the panel of experts has adjudged the following winners:

1. SAIL (Steel Authority of India Limited), Durgapur (West Bengal) : Year of Installation- 1960.

2. West Coast Paper Mills Limited, Dandeli (Karnataka) : Year of Installation- 1965.

Incidentally, both these pumps are UP models, the most popular Horizontal Split Case Pumps manufactured in the Kirloskarvadi plant.

In addition to the above, the panel has also declared a special award for the "UP pump" working at Cochin Port Trust since 1950. This entry could not comply with certain terms of the contest and hence was considered as a special case.

The award function is scheduled to be held by end April/early May,2011.
