India's leading para-swimmer Prasanta Karmakar and Asian Games 2010 Bronze medalist Virdhawal Khade received the prestigious Arjuna Award from President Prathiba Patil at the Rashtrapati Bhawan today, in the midst of family and fellow sportspersons. GoSports Foundation scholars were feted by the Government of India in recognition of their contribution to the sport of swimming at the 2010 Asian and Commonwealth Games.

Para Asian Games medalist, Prasanta Karmakar believes, "GoSports Foundation has played a very important role in what I am today. They recognized my talent, had faith in my abilities and acted as a constant source of support. Apart from financial assistance, they played a crucial role in planning my competitions and training schedule. The very thought that they back me, gives me a lot of confidence." Ranked top 20 in the world in each of his competitive categories, Prasanta is India's first swimmer to win a medal at the Commonwealth Games 2010.
For Virdhawal, Commonwealth Games 2010 finalist and the first Indian swimmer to win a medal at the Asian Games in 24 years, the Arjuna Award is nothing short of a confidence booster as he prepares for the 2012 London Olympics. Speaking about the Foundation's contribution to his success, Virdhawal says, "There are several aspects of a sports person's career where the parents and the coaches can provide only limited support. That's why, I am thankful to GoSports Foundation and Coach Nihar Ameen for being my support system throughout my swimming career.The two of us being honored is proof of GoSports Foundation's commitment to sporting excellence."

Olympian swimming coach and member of GoSports Foundation Panel of Experts, Nihar Ameen's joy knew no bounds. Expressing pride at the boys' win, he said,"I'm really thrilled about the success of my wards and believe this is a huge step towards motivating them. It's important that sportsmen are recognized for their achievements. With this honor, there's no doubt that Indian swimming has a great future. I would like to acknowledge the support of GoSports Foundation towards Virdhawal and Prasanta's successful journey. The prestigious Arjuna Awards are the latest addition to the list of accomplishments by GoSports Foundation scholars and a testament to the Foundation's commitment towards supporting athletes as they work tirelessly towards achieving sporting excellence.
